AquaPhoto - Baleines-P é tition au gouvernement japonais

Bonjour,

Vous aimez photographier les baleines, moi je n'ai pas (encore) eu
l'occasion.

Inutile de dire qu'une signature ne sera qu'une goutte dans l'océan; le peu
qu'on peut faire, on le fait. Et c'est facile :

1. Stop "Scientific" Whale-Killing
http://www.care2.com/go/z/12399

Over 20,000 whales have been killed since commercial
whaling was banned by the International Whaling Commission
in 1986. How? Partly because a loophole allows any nation
to issue itself a permit to kill any number of whales "for
the purposes of scientific research." Yet, the whale meat
is sold in supermarkets later!

Some nations, like Japan, continue to expand their
programs of "scientific" killing. In fact, Japan has
invested in a public relations offensive to convince
the public that whaling is culturally and economically
important to Japan and that whales eat too many fish
and threaten the conservation of fish stocks - a claim
for which there is no scientific basis.

More than 1,400 whales are expected to suffer a long
and torturous death this year alone.

Sign this petition to Japan's Ministry of the Environment,
urging them to stop flouting our international agreement to
protect whales.

2. Protect Dolphin Safe Tuna Label
http://www.care2.com/go/z/12400

Despite broad bipartisan public support for the dolphin-
safe label on tuna cans and pouches, new proposed changes
to the program would allow tuna caught using the harmful
practice of chasing and setting nets on dolphins to be
labeled "dolphin-safe."

This policy has the potential to devastate dolphin
populations, especially three dolphin populations in
the Eastern Pacific -- the northeastern offshore spotted,
the eastern spinner, and the coastal spotted -- which have
all seen their numbers plummet as a result of dolphin-
deadly fishing practices.

Sign this petition to urge the Bush Administration not to
change the current Dolphin-Safe Tuna label.

3. Activist Tip:
While snorkling is a great way to enjoy ocean wildlife,
make sure that you don't step on coral. A coral's polyp is
essentially a fragile balloon. Short term but intense
pressures are likely to crush the polyp's skeleton, leading
to damage or even death.

4. Inspirational Quote:
"To tell the truth, we have never met animals who have
made the transition from land to water (sea lions, sperm
whales, dolphins, etc.) without feeling a touch of envy."
 - Jacques-Yves Cousteau
